It is interesting that Heifetz, inarguably among the finest violinists of all time, once referred to Dinicu as the finest violinist he had ever heard. Dinicu wrote his best-known work, the Hora Staccato, as a graduation exercise, before launching a 40-year career of conducting and solo work (with primarily lighter music). Heifetz' own 1932 arrangement of the piece for violin and piano has become a classic favorite, and we here present the full score of Adolf Schmid's orchestration. We are pleased to note that performances by both Dinicu and Heifetz are available on YouTube, an interesting exercize in comparison.
